A fitting is used in pipe systems to connect straight pipe or tubing sections, adapt to different sizes or shapes and for other purposes, such as regulating fluid flow. SAE 4130 Pipe Fittings are used in a piping system to change direction or function, which is mechanically joined to the system. The simplest way to achieve this is to bend the pipe in the direction required, but this process will stretch and thin the outer wall of the pipe whilst thickening and wrinkling, the inner wall of the pipe. 4130 Alloy Steel Elbow Fittings—Alloy Steel Pipe Elbows are installed between two lengths of pipe or tube allowing a change of direction by 180°, 90° or 45°. The ends are machined for Butt Welding when the two ends differ in size, it is called a Reducer or, Reducing Elbow. Pipe Fitting Elbows are available as 180° elbows, 90° elbows or 45° elbows in 1D, 1.5D, 2D, 3D, 5D, 6D, 8D, 10D radius as short and long radius elbows. All ASTM A234 elbows are mandrel formed to ensure consistency.

Properties of 4130 Steel alloy

4130 Steel Cold Forming

Chromoly 4130 steel can be cold worked using conventional methods.

4130 Steel Hot Forming

Hot working of Chromoly 4130 steel steel can be done at 816 to 1093°C (1500 to 2000°F).

4130 Steel Machining

Chromoly 4130 steel can be easily machined using standard techniques. Whereas, annealing is required for complex forms.

4130 Steel Welding

Welding of Chromoly 4130 steel can be performed by all standard methods. Although, post-weld stress relief heat treatment is required sometimes.

4130 Steel Heat Treatment

Chromoly 4130 steel should be heated at 871°C (1600°F) and then quenched in oil. The steel is usually heat-treated at temperatures ranging from 899 to 927°C (1650 to 1700°F).
