ASTM B622 Hastelloy C22 / C276 / B2 Seamless Pipe and Tube Manufacturer
ASTM B622 Specification covers seamless pipe and tube for Hastelloy C276, B2 and Hastelloy C22. These alloys are classified into different grades according to chemical composition.
ASTM B22 - Seamless Pipes and TubeASTM B622 Seamless Pipes and Tubes do not have a weld or seam on them and hence are more structurally uniform and has similar strength properties all over the body. Thus Seamless pipes or tubes can withstand higher amounts of mechanical stress, pressure, higher temperature and resist wide range of corrosive environments. The ASTM B165 UNS N04400 Seamless Pipe manufacturing process begins with the conversion of raw steel into steel bars. These steel bars are introduced to different types of rolling mills, where these bars are rolled into a uniform round shaped solid billet. These solid round billets are later heated and then pushed or pulled over piercing rods thereby producing a hollow tube or pipe or shell. Due to the heating during production of seamless pipes or tubes, they are then cooled to form a consistent steel pattern which is uniform throughout its length. |

Scope And Manufacturing
This ASTM B622 specification covers seamless pipe and tube of nickel and nickel-cobalt alloys (UNS N10276, UNS N06022 and UNS N10622). Seamless Pipes and tubes shall be supplied in the solution annealed and descaled condition. Descaling is not necessary if atmosphere control is used. Mechanical properties of the material like tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation shall be measured.
ASTM B622 Seamless Pipes and Tubes are exclusively used in nuclear device, petrochemical industries, boilers, ship building and gas industries. They are also extensively applicable in conditions where high-pressure resistance is required, like Gas explorations rigs, Oil refineries, hydrocarbon industries, drilling, oil and gas transportations, automobiles, hydraulic cylinders, bearing boilers. ASTM B622 Seamless Pipes and Tubes are highly used in Chinese boiler industries and estimated to be dominant at 65% of market share.

Flare Test: - The Flare test should consist of test specimen (one end of tube among the lot of 100) with the help of expanding tool having covering an angle of 60 degree, until the specified outside diameter of the tube is increased atleast by 30% from the original. During this process, the tube should not exhibit any cracking through walls.
Grain Size: - An n extended (transverse) sample exhibiting complete wall thickness of annealed alloys shall adhere to the average grain size as specified in ASTM B622 specification.
Hardness: - In stress-relived conditions when annealed ends are specified for tubing, the hardness of the ends should not cross the limits as specified in ASTM B622.
Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test: - Every tube should be put through either hydrostatic test or nondestructive electric test. Within the mentioned specification limits of outside diameter of 1/8 inches (3.2mm) and thickness of 0.015 inches (0.38mm), each tube should be tested to an internal hydrostatic pressure of 1000 psi. (6.9MPa). Fiber stress calculated using this formula should not exceed the specification limits.
Specimen Preparation: -
Tension test- The tubes in the final condition (temper) of production are taken as specimen for tension test, and are tested in the direction of fabrication. Tubes are tested in full tubular size or longitudinal strip with reduced gage lengths. The tension test should be performed on stress-relived tubes prior to annealing the ends.
Hardness test- The hardness test is performed on the inside of the tube near the end or on the specimen cut from the end.
Workman Ship, Finish and Appearance: -
ASTM B622 Seamless Tubings are individually covered so that the premium quality of material is retained and there are no damages in the last stages of production. The Tubings should be uniform in quality and temper, commercially straight, smooth and free of any imperfections.
Inspection: - The tubes should be inspected as agreed upon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.
Rejection and Rehearing: - The tube not adhering to the ASTM B622 specification or to authorized modifications should be subjected to rejection. The rejected specimens should be preserved for not less than 3 weeks from test report, and the manufacturer may claim for rehearing within that stipulated time period.
Certification: -
If it is mentioned in purchase order or the contract, then the manufacturer should be able to produce a certificate stating that the material has been manufactured and tested and inspected again with respect to the specification. It should also note the test results of the specimen samples which meets the specification requirements, and should be displayed as and when required.
Product Marking:-
ASTM B622 Seamless Tubes are tagged along with the imprints relevant to the job information which also contains information about the delivering destination like heat number, size, material, and part number.
