ASTM B626 - Seamless Pipes and Tube

ASTM B626 Hastelloy Welded Tubes are wrought nickel based alloys with excellent characteristics like high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. The ASTM B626 Welded Tubes should be made by using flat-rolled alloy through and automated welding process with no requirement of additional filler metals. Prior to the final heat treatment and after the welding, ASTM B626 tubes should be cold-worked either in weld metal only or in both weld and base metal. The procedure and amount for cold-work can be defined by purchaser, in which they can specify the minimum amount o reduction in cross-sectional area or wall thickness or both. All ASTM B626 Welded Tubes should be furnished in solution annealed or descaled condition.(If atmosphere control is used, descaling is not necessary). The Tubings made under specification ASTM B626 are exclusively considered for application of heat exchangers and condenser tubes and are also intended for general corrosion service towards heat resisting applications.

Scope And Manufacturing

This ASTM B626 specification covers Welded Nickel and Nickel-Cobalt tubes like ASTM B626 Hastelloy B-2 Welded Tubes (UNS N10665), ASTM B626 Hastelloy C-22 Welded Tubes (UNS N06022), and ASTM B626 Hastelloy C-276 Welded Tubes (UNS N10276). In accordance to this specification ASTM B626, the material furnished under it should adhere to the specified requirement mentioned like chemical composition, mechanical properties, tensile and yield strength, rockwell hardness, length and diameter etc. The ASTM B626 Hastelloy Welded Tubes are longer in length with narrow diameter giving excellent resistance towards corrosive atmospheric condition. ASTM B626 Welded Tubes are highly recommended to be applied in furnace applications as they possess unusual resistance towards reducing, neutral and oxidizing atmospheres.

ASTM B626 Hastelloy Welded Tubes is a wrought nickel base alloy with excellent high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. Mumbadevi Steel India (MSI) offers Hastelloy C276, Hastelloy C22 Welded Tube on large scale.

ASTM B626 specification covers welded Hastelloy C276 and Hastelloy C22 Tubes. It is recommended, especially for use in furnace applications because it has unusual resistance to oxidizing, reducing, and neutral atmospheres.

Flare Test: - The Flare test should consist of test specimen (one end of tube among the lot of 100) with the help of expanding tool having covering an angle of 60 degree, until the specified outside diameter of the tube is increased atleast by 30% from the original. During this process, the tube should not exhibit any cracking through walls.

Grain Size: - An n extended (transverse) sample exhibiting complete wall thickness of annealed alloys shall adhere to the average grain size as specified in ASTM B626 specification.

Hardness: - In stress-relived conditions when annealed ends are specified for tubing, the hardness of the ends should not cross the limits as specified in ASTM B626.

Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test: - Every tube should be put through either hydrostatic test or nondestructive electric test. Within the mentioned specification limits of outside diameter of 1/8 inches (3.2mm) and thickness of 0.015 inches (0.38mm), each tube should be tested to an internal hydrostatic pressure of 1000 psi. (6.9MPa). Fiber stress calculated using this formula should not exceed the specification limits.

Specimen Preparation: -

Tension test- The tubes in the final condition (temper) of production are taken as specimen for tension test, and are tested in the direction of fabrication. Tubes are tested in full tubular size or longitudinal strip with reduced gage lengths. The tension test should be performed on stress-relived tubes prior to annealing the ends.

Hardness test- The hardness test is performed on the inside of the tube near the end or on the specimen cut from the end.

Workman Ship, Finish and Appearance: -

ASTM B626 Welded Tubings are individually covered so that the premium quality of material is retained and there are no damages in the last stages of production. The Tubings should be uniform in quality and temper, commercially straight, smooth and free of any imperfections.

Inspection: - The tubes should be inspected as agreed upon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.

Rejection and Rehearing: - The tube not adhering to the ASTM B626 specification or to authorized modifications should be subjected to rejection. The rejected specimens should be preserved for not less than 3 weeks from test report, and the manufacturer may claim for rehearing within that stipulated time period.

Certification: -

If it is mentioned in purchase order or the contract, then the manufacturer should be able to produce a certificate stating that the material has been manufactured and tested and inspected again with respect to the specification. It should also note the test results of the specimen samples which meets the specification requirements, and should be displayed as and when required.

Product Marking:-

ASTM B626 Welded Tubes are tagged along with the imprints relevant to the job information which also contains information about the delivering destination like heat number, size, material, and part number.
