Duplex 2205 is a widely used grade of Stainless Steel. Due to its equally ferritic and austenitic nature, it is highly applicable where requirement for good corrosion resistance and good strength is needed. The benefit of Duplex 2205 structural properties is that, it combines excellent properties of ferritic alloy with that of austenitic alloy making Duplex 2205 an Ideal alloy for wide spectrum of environments. The Ferritic properties include stress corrosion cracking resistance and high strength, and Austenitic properties include ease of fabrication and corrosion resistance. UNS S31803 went into research phase and went through many modifications, resulting in formation of UNS S32205. This grade UNS S32205 was introduced in the year 1996, which offers higher resistance to corrosion. Duplex Steel 2205 is also known as Standard Duplex or 22Cr Duplex. Duplex Stainless Steel is two-phase corroded Steel, ferritic and austenitic steel with 22% Cr and 3% Mo, 5 to 6% Ni alloyed stainless steel with high general corrosion and stress corrosion resistance properties in addition to high strength and excellent impact toughness.

Duplex 2205 consist of high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content, which exhibit superior properties towards corrosion resistance. It also shows high resistance towards pitting and crevice corrosion, even in oxidizing and acidic solutions. The inclusion of ferrite helps in for good performance in caustic environments. Duplex 2205 alloy has good oxidation resistance towards high temperatures. Duplex 2205 alloy possesses good weldability, but shouldn't be welded without filler metals as it may result in excessive ferrite. The micro-constituents in Duplex 2205 are prone to precipitation at temperatures above temperature 300 C resulting in brittle micro-constituents. And at temperature below -50 C, they are prone to transition from ductile-to-brittle. Hence, Duplex 2205 grade of stainless steel is not suitable at temperatures below -50 C and temperatures above 300C.

It is used to create a leak-proof tight-sealing for various levels of pressures as suggested and allowed pressure of the tubing. The Duplex 2205 Tube Fittings consists of a fitting body, a nut, a front ferrule, and a back ferrule. The two ferrules in Duplex 2205 Tube fittings have separate sealing and tube gripping functions, each ferrule is optimized for its function.
