A fitting is used in pipe systems to connect straight pipe or tubing sections, adapt to different sizes or shapes and for other purposes, such as regulating fluid flow. Pipe Fittings are used in a piping system to change direction or function, which is mechanically joined to the system. The simplest way to achieve this is to bend the pipe in the direction required, but this process will stretch and thin the outer wall of the pipe whilst thickening and wrinkling, the inner wall of the pipe. Stainless Steel Elbow Fittings—Stainless Steel Pipe Elbows are installed between two lengths of pipe or tube allowing a change of direction by 180°, 90° or 45°. The ends are machined for Butt Welding when the two ends differ in size, it is called a Reducer or, Reducing Elbow. Pipe Fitting Elbows are available as 180° elbows, 90° elbows or 45° elbows in 1D, 1.5D, 2D, 3D, 5D, 6D, 8D, 10D radius as short and long radius elbows. Stainless Steel Stub Ends Pipe Fittings—Stub Ends are installed in pairs and mated together with two Lap-Joint Flanges. The surface of the stub end has a phonographic serrated gasket surface which prevents leakage at the joint. Properties of AISI 304H Stainless Steel

304H SS Cold Forming

304H Stainless Steel is readily formed and fabricated through a full range of cold working operations. It can be used in heading, drawing, bending, and upsetting. Any cold working operations will increase the strength and hardness of the material, and may leave it slightly magnetic.

304H SS Hot Forming

304H Stainless Steel can be forged in the 1700-2200°F range. For maximum corrosion resistance, forgings should be annealed at 1900°F minimum and water quenched or rapidly cooled by other means after hot working operations.

304H SS Machining

304H Stainless Steel is a tough austenitic stainless steel subject to work hardening during deformation and, unless modified for improved machining response, is resistant to chip breaking. The best machining results are achieved with slower speeds, heavier feeds, excellent lubrication, sharp tooling, and powerful, rigid equipment.

304H SS Welding

304H Stainless Steel is readily welded by a full range of conventional welding procedures (except oxyacetylene). AWS E308H/ER308H filler metals should be used with Type 304/304H steel. After welding Type 304H it may be necessary to fully anneal to restore the corrosion resistance lost by sensitization to intergranular corrosion when chromium carbides were precipitated in the grain boundaries in the weld heat-affected zone.

304H SS Heat Treatment

Annealing: Type 304H should be heated to 1900ºF minimum and water quenched or rapidly cooled by other means.
Hardening: Type 304H cannot be hardened by heat treatment. However, Type 304H can be hardened by cold working.
