ASTM A182 Flanges

ASTM A182 flange is a ring of steel (forged, cut from plate, or rolled) designed to connect sections of pipe, or to join pipe to a pressure vessel, valve, pump or other integral flanged assembly. Flanges are joined to each other by bolting, and are joined to the piping system by welding or threading (or loose when stub ends are used). Most forged steel flanges correspond to the requirements of the American Standards Association (ASME/ANSI Standard B16.5) and the ASTM Specification A-105. Forged stainless steel flanges are designed to the following common pressure ratings: Classes 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500 and 2500. Standard sealing face is Raised Face (RF)

Scope And Manufacturing

ASTM A182 UNS specification covers stainless steel piping components for use in pressure systems. Included are flanges similar parts to specified dimensions or to dimensional standards, such as the ASME specifications. The stainless steels shall be melted by one of the following processes: (a) electric-furnace (with separate degassing and refining optional); (b) vacuum-furnace; or (c) one of the former followed by vacuum or electroslag-consumable remelting. Because of difficulties that may be met in retaining nitrogen, vacuum melting or remelting processes should not be specified for Grades F44 S31254, F309 S30900, F316ti S31635, F317l S31703, F321 S32100, F330 N08330, F347 S34700, F904l N08904, F51 S31803, F60 S32205, F53 S32750, F55 S32760. For flanges of any type, forged or rolled bar may be used without additional hot working for small cylindrically shaped parts within the limits defined by Specification A 403/A 403M.
