ASTM B162specification stands for the Plate, Sheet and Strip of Nickel Alloy. These sheets are made by rolling process. Sheet metal parts are characterized by high strength, good dimensional tolerances, good surface finish, and relatively low cost. Cutting is used to separate large sheets into smaller pieces, to cut out a part perimeter, or to make holes (cavities) in a part.

Scope And Manufacturing

ASTM B162 covers rolled nickel 200 (UNS N02200) and nickel 201 (UNS N02201) plate, sheet, and strip. Deep drawing is a manufacturing process that is used extensively in the forming of sheet metal under tensile and compressive conditions, without altering the sheet thickness. The formability of a blank during the deep drawing depends on the process parameters such as blank holder force, lubrication, punch and die radius, die–punch clearance, in addition to mechanical properties and thickness of the sheet metal’s geometry. Also Each flat rolled product owes its final properties not just in the rolling process itself but to its vital interactions with the preparatory steps of alloying, casting, scalping and pre-heating; intermediate annealing; and such later finishing steps as a solution heat treatment or final annealing, stretching, leveling, slitting, edge trimming and aging. In plate products, this can be achieved by controlling the finishing temperature in hot rolling and the elimination of the anneal that follows hot rolling. Sheet and Strip can be cold rolled to higher strength.
