Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy. It is a solid solution strengthened, nickel-molybdenum alloy. In comparison to its predecessor Hastelloy B | UNS N10001, Hastelloy B2 has notably lower carbon, silicon and iron, making the alloy less susceptible to decreased corrosion resistance in the weld zone, in the as-welded condition. Due to the high content of molybdenum in Hastelloy B2, it gives the alloy an excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid over a wide spectrum of concentrations and varied temperatures. Hastelloy B2 also exhibits outstanding resistance to hydrogen chloride, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acids and has excellent resistance towards pitting and stress corrosion cracking in the heat–affected zone. Hastelloy B2 also exhibits good tolerance towards pure sulfuric acid and a number of non-oxidizing acids. If Hastelloy B2 is used in sync with iron or copper piping in a system containing hydrochloric acid, the reaction between hydrochloric acid and iron or copper gives rise to ferric or cupric salts which may cause rapid premature corrosion failure, which may result in alloy failing permanently. Hastelloy B2 resists the formation of grain boundary carbide precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. The heat-affected weld zones have reduced precipitation of carbides and other phases to ensure uniform corrosion resistance. Hastelloy B2 also has excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking. The use of Hastelloy B2 should be avoided at temperatures between 1000°F and 1600°F, as the alloy forms secondary phases that could decrease the ductility of the material. Solution annealing of Hastelloy B2 is performed for 10 minutes at temperature at 1950°F, followed by a water quench.

It is used to create a leak-proof tight-sealing for various levels of pressures as suggested and allowed pressure of the tubing. It also join two components to each other with a stable and strong bond, holding them together in extreme condition and temperatures .The Hastelloy B2 Tube Fittings consists of a fitting body, a nut, a front ferrule, and a back ferrule. The two ferrules in Inconle B2 Tube fittings have separate sealing and tube gripping functions, each ferrule is optimized for its function. The front ferrule establishes a tight-seal against the fitting component and on the tubing outside diameter. As the nut is rotated, the back ferrule axially moves towards the front ferrule and radically applies an effective tube grip, thus creating a Leak-Proof Tight-Sealing.
