ASTM B463 specifies Sheet Plate for Nickel Alloy which is also known as Alloy 20 or Carpenter 20. Alloy 20 Sheet and Plate is a niobium stabilized austentic nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of copper and molybdenum. Carpenter 20 sheet is a flat rolled product of rectangular cross section with uniform thickness from 0.2 up to and including 10mm, supplied in straight length, usually with sheared or sawn edges. The thickness does not exceed one tenth of the width. Alloy 20 gives excellent resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acids. Also gives good resistance to intergranular corrosion. Carpenter 20 Alloy shall conform to the specified chemical composition requirements for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, copper, columbium, tantalum, nitrogen, and iron.

Scope And Manufacturing

ASTM B463 specification covers the standard requirements for UNS N08020 Alloy plate (hot- or cold-rolled), sheet, and strip. The alloys shall be furnished and heat treated at certain annealing condition and temperature range: stabilized annealing for UNS N08020 alloy. The materials shall conform to the specified chemical composition requirements for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, copper, columbium, tantalum, nitrogen, and iron. Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and Brinell or Rockwell hardness of the alloys shall also meet the specified mechanical property requirements. Alloy 20 resists pitting and chloride ion corrosion and its copper content protect it from sulfuric acid.
