ASTM B171 - Sheet and Plate

ASTM B171 is specification for sheet of copper alloy, rolled designed for a pressure vessel, heat excahngers, turbines, etc. The circles cut from plates and sheets are made of UNS C70600, UNS C71500 copper alloy. These materials are recommended for use in pressure vessels, condensers, and heat exchangers. The sheet or plate materials are manufactured by either hot rolling or forging and finished by cold working and annealing to produce products of the required dimensions and properties.

Scope And Manufacturing

ASTM B171 specification includes the requirements for Cupro Nickel plate and sheets. The slabs of sheet (plate) are hot rolled through the hot strip mill. This mill, although rather compact for a hot strip mill, was designed to precisely control the width and lateral thickness difference (strip crown) of steel strips using a vertical roughing stand and finishing rolling stands of pair-cross-roll configuration; these features are effective also at producing cupro-nickel sheets of excellent accuracy in width and thickness. The hot bands thus produced are descaled, cold rolled and annealed into final sheet products.
